Vice President Binay |
(This happened last Thursday. A female staff from the Clinton Foundation shouted at VP Binay and asked him to leave the VIP area where former US Pres. Clinton was staying before his speech at the Manila Hotel. The female staff didn't know who she was shouting at till Binay introduced himself as the Vice President of the Philippines. Binay Obidiently exited the VIP area and the female staff immediately apologized to him.)
What happened here is abominable on three counts. First, there's really no point in shouting at Vice President Binay (or anyone), no matter where angle you regard it from; second, it's stupid of her not to know at least the Vice President of the country she's visiting; and third, she's not in her own country to act like she's some sort of a greater entity. Filipinos, in general, are nice and respectful to foreign visitors, and we always try to make them feel at home. Looks like this Clinton aide took the feel-at-home-invitation to heart, errr, a little bit too much. (Sisigaw-sigaw, nasa bahay ka ba, ha ate? ha?) She should get a comprehensive foreign diplomacy training for chrisake! Well, I know Binay is short and dark and, errrr... (***i'm trying to be nice here***), very simple looking, so I guess he was mistaken as somebody gatecrashing the event. Clinton's staff was just doing her job but it is not safe to assume that people whose personal appearance (or faces, lol) she doesn't like are there to mess up the event. And shouting is very disrespectful as it is unnecessary.

Well, shouting maybe necessary if one is really being stubborn and unreasonable and you want to get your message delivered. That just doesn't apply to Binay.
Eto ba ang mukang gagawa ng masama? Hindi naman ah! |
Huwag judgmental! Don't judge the book by its cover (especially if you're not a judge - waaah, corny! XD).
The aide's disrespectful action doesn't speak for most Americans though, or most people from other countries for that matter, so this is NOT an anti-American post.
Byerts now! XD
